Set within arched niches against a fine diamond trellis ground, this table runner carries the cows of Vrindavan — a motif drawn from the pastoral world of Krishna, where cattle are held as sacred companions and symbols of abundance.
Each niche frames the figures in madder red and indigo-black, bordered by a slender teal line, hand block-printed using the Ajrakh technique.
Ajrakh is a resist-dye process refined over generations by artisan families of Kutch, involving hand-carved wooden blocks, natural dyes, and repeated stages of printing and washing before the cloth reaches its finished state. The hakoba weave adds a fine perforated texture across the ground, offering quiet contrast to the density of the motif.
As with all naturally dyed, hand-printed textiles, minor variations in tone and placement are inherent to the process evidence of the hand, not a flaw in it.
