Sandalwood (Chandan)

Sacred wood of India

Chandan is perhaps the most spiritually significant wood in the Indian subcontinent — offered to deities, applied to the forehead, burned at every altar. Its scent is warm, milky, and deeply calming to the nervous system. In Ayurveda it cools Pitta and quiets the mind. There is no temple without it.


Saffron (Kesar)

The golden thread

Kesar is India's most precious spice — and its most precious scent. Used in prasad, in royal perfumes, in bridal rituals and festival sweets. As smoke it is warm, honeyed, and unmistakably auspicious. It turns the ordinary air of a room into something that feels like a beginning.

How to burn

1. Place in a brass or clay holder. Both feel right with this one — it belongs in materials that have age.
